About 1 ½ years ago, I quit the cabinet installation business and decided to re-engage my old high school occupation of photography. I started to check with the local real estate companies and one agent suggested virtual tours as an occupation. I got on the Internet to find a hit on the RTV site. I contacted them to discuss the possibility of becoming a member of the virtual tour team. Before I knew it, I was in the virtual tour business.
In the next few months I canvassed the local real estate companies and commercial establishments. I picked up a couple jobs but it was slow. The local, small town realtors just did not want to take the next step into high tech. My marketing strategies (tour sales, promotions, etc.) failed -- nothing worked. I even joined the Chamber of Commerce in order to get involve with the local businesses. Then, I started to schedule appointments with commercial businesses (hotels, industrial parks, colleges, YMCA, etc.).
While vacationing in the mountains of North Carolina, Sandy (my wife) and I decided to market our business to the real estate companies. We found agents were very interested in virtual tours and left business cards to more than 20 realty companies in the southwest mountains of North Carolina. We were surprised on the positive feedback from realtors and the lack of virtual tour business.
The desires from the realtors were positive and eager to get started. My home base became a RV parked at a local mountain campground for 6 weeks. During this time, six real estate companies became my clients. I photographed 33 homes ranging from $500,000 to $3.5M value. Also during this time, I picked up another client and accomplished to photograph a Retirement/Assisted Living facility! Due to the overwhelming response, I worked late each night getting the tours accomplished and uploaded.
